Burnaby Food Swap

I’m excited to be working with Roberta LaQuaglia to organize a Burnaby Food Swap as part of the Moveable Feast.

Preserves at Food Swap

Originally, we’d planned to host the Swap in August so we could be outside in the garden. An outdoor swap seemed like fun, however, the steamy weather defeated our attempts! It was too hot for any baking, canning, pickling etc…so we decided to postpone the Swap until Thursday, September 13th.  The Swap will take place in the Fireside Room in the Burnaby Art Gallery from 7:00-9:00.  If you haven’t been to the Gallery before, I can promise that you will enjoy the arts and crafts style room with it’s stain glass and beautiful woodwork. It’s nice to have a feast for the eyes as well as the body.

This is quite a special Swap as chef Andrea Potter from Rooted Nutrition will be on hand to provide a pickling demonstration and some of her favourite recipes.  This is an ideal time to be thinking about pickling as there are so many vegetables ready for harvest.

For those of you that haven’t been to Food Swap before, it’s time to consider how you can trade on your domestic skills! I went to the Burnaby Food Swap in July with bags of fresh greens, bundles of kale and radishes and came home with focaccia bread, homemade marshmallows, rose jelly, granola, bread sticks and shortbread. Yum!

If you’re interested in taking part in the Swap, register via Eventbrite on the Burnaby Food Swap page or contact the Gallery at 604-297-4422.
